Microdialysis Probes

The MAB 1 series of probes are flexible probes intended for sampling in peripheral tissues. Very fine dimensions make them suitable for small tissues.

MAB 1 series of probes

The MAB 1 series of Microdialysis Probes are made from polymer materials only. Flexible shafts make the probe follow the tissue movements. Material used are FEP tubing, fused silica, polyimide tubing and polyurethane. A groove in the probe head simplifies fixing the probe with a suture. The probes can be made in different shaft and/or membrane lengths upon request.

The MAB 2 series of probes are CNS probes equipped with a 35 kDalton’s cut-off membrane.

MAB 2.14.3

The MAB 2 series of Microdialysis Probes are entirely non-metal. Inlet/outlet made from PEEK and probe shaft is made from polyimide tubing. A 35 kD cut-off PES membrane allows the recovery of larger molecules. We strongly recommend that a push-pull type of pump is used with these probes. Standard probe shaft lengths are 14 or 20 mm with membrane lengths of 1 to 4 mm. Probes with customer defined shaft/membrane lengths are made upon request.

MAB 3 series of probes

The MAB 3 series of probes are flexible probes made for sampling in peripheral tissues. Equipped with 35 kDalton’s cut-off membrane.

Available for the shorter versions are introducers made from splitable plastic tubing and a needle.

The MAB 3 series of probes come with flexible shaft similar to the MAB 1 series but with larger diameter and higher cut-off membrane. These probes are also made with customer specified shaft and/or membrane lengths. Materials used in the probes are FEP, polyurethane and polyimide. 

MAB 4/5 series of probes

The MAB 4/5 series of probes are thin CNS probes equipped with PES, Cuprophane or PE membrane. With membrane OD of app. 0,2 mm and shaft OD of 0,18 mm these probes make the minimal possible damage. Both MAB 4 membranes are 6 kDalton’s in cut-off but a major difference is that the PES membrane is dry. This means no flushing of the probe prior to use. MAB 5 PE membrane is 3 MDa in cut-off.

The MAB 4 series of probes are non-metal CNS probes with very fine dimensions. Available with two different membranes, PES or Cuprophane. Both with 6 kDalton’s in cut-off. This make them ideal for recovering the small neurotransmitter substances common in neuroscientific research. The PES versions are autoclaveable. Also here the inlet/outlet is made from PEEK while the shafts are made from polyimide tubing and fused silica. Below the probe head is a ”shaft upper sleeve”. This is for making it possible to hold and fix the probe around the shaft in a probe clip. Customer specified shaft and/or membrane length are available as well. The MAB 5 probes are designed for high cut-off microdialysis.

MAB 10/12 series of probes

The MAB 10/12 series of probes are small probes with thin membrane ideal for CNS work. They come with 6 kDalton’s PES, Cuprophane or PE membrane as standard. PES/PE are dry membranes and needs no prior flushing before using a probe.

The MAB 6 series of probes are CNS probes with 15 kDalton’s cut-off PES membrane. A membrane OD of 0,6 mm means good recovery characteristics.

The MAB 6 series of probes are non-metal CNS probes made from the same type of components as the MAB 2 and MAB 9 series of probes. The difference being the molecular weight cut-off of the PES membrane. Typical application for the 15 kD membrane is when slightly larger substances are to be recovered. These probes work fine with syringe pumps pushing perfusion media through the probe. However there is need for certain caution when the probe outlet tubing gets too long in combination with a water pillar from the probe to the collection site.

MAB 7 series of probes

A flexibel series of microdialysis probes similar to the MAB 3 series but equipped with 15 kDalton’s PES membrane. Introducers are the same as for MAB 3 probes.

Identical to the MAB 3 probes concerning materials used. The exception being the membrane which here still is PES but with 15 kDalton’s in cut-off. Comes with inlet/outlet tubings attached and can be made to customer defined specifications concerning shaft and/or membrane lengths.

MAB 8 series of probes

Very small probes equipped with 6 kDalton’s cut-off PES membrane. Inlet/outlet are made form passivated stainless steel cannulas while the rest of the probe is made from non-metal materials. Dedicated MAB 8 accessories are available. Such as a probe clip, FEP tubing, tubing adapters and connectors. The MAB 8 FEP tubing is 0,4 mm in outer diameter but still with the same inner diameter as the conventional FEP tubing. Available as standard with 4 mm shaft length and 1 or 2 mm membrane length.

A probe dedicated to the ones working with CNS applications in mice. The request was to make a probe that weigh as little as possible and take up as little space as possible on the skull. Miniaturised FEP tubing and tubing adapters also take off weight and volume. Specially made MAB 8 Connectors make it possible to connect the MAB 8 products to the conventional syringe tips, swivels, fraction collectors, liquid switches etc..

MAB 9 series of probes

Same probe type as the MAB 2 and MAB 6 series but with a 6 kDaltons’s cut-off membrane. All other components being identical and the very same guide cannulas and other accessories for MAB 2 and MAB 6 can be used also for the MAB 9 probes.

The MAB 9 series of probes is a very common probe type for CNS studies. They are equipped with 6 kDalton’s cut-off PES membrane. Ideal for recovering low molecular compounds in awake animal settings as well as anaesthetised settings. Excellent recovery characteristics and the fact the dry PES membrane is easy to start up and handle have made this probe series popular. Also these probes are autoclaveable and there are guides cannulas available. Can be made with customer defined shaft and/or membrane lengths.

MAB 11 series of probes

Flexible microdialysis probes for peripheral tissues. Equipped with 6 kDalton’s cut-off PES membrane. Same introducers that fit for MAB 3 and MAB 7 probes are used for the MAB 11 probes.

MAB 11 probes are identical with MAB 3 and MAB 7 probes except for the membrane used. The 6 kDalton’s cut-off membrane on the MAB 11 is ideal for recovering low molecular weight compounds. As the other probes are also these autoclaveable.

MAB 3.35.I, Introducer (Needle and split tubing)

The Introducers for flexible probes series MAB 3/7/11 are made from a sterile disposable syringe needle and a splitable plastic tubing. The tubing is partly pre-splitted so that it is easier to get hold of it. The needle is inserted into the plastic tubing with the pre-splitted part towards the needle luer lock. After having penetrated the skin the needle only is withdrawn leaving the split tubing in the tissue. A probe is now inserted into the split tubing and pushed down slowly only so far that the membrane is still protected by the tubing. The split tubing may now by withdrawn and during withdrawal it is split in two pieces.
